Whether you are using a
laptop or a smartphone, your device
can be modified to get the most out
of your lithium-ion battery.
* Even a constant trickle charge
can wear on the
battery. Therefore, if you want
to keep your laptop plugged
in...take out the battery.
* Batteries need exercise. Run
your battery down to about
20-30% and recharge at least 2
times a month. (Don't let it
completely discharge!)
* Keep it cool - Heat is your
batteries nemesis. Use your
laptop on a hard surface so that
the fans can keep the battery
cool. Do not store your laptop
in a bag when the battery is
still warm. And don't store in
a hot vehicle.
* Dim it - the brighter your
screen, the more power you are
drawing from the battery. Many
devices have an autodimming
feature that detect the light in
a room.
* Stop searching for a signal -
if you are not using your
Bluetooth or not near a Wi-Fi
signal, turn off those features
on your phone. And if you are
in a weak or no signal area,
your phone is working hard to
find a signal.
* Most smartphones are set to
check for email automatically,
decrease the frequency that
email is checked, or check it
manually.
* Notifications - Turn down the
volume, the number of rings and
vibrations. A smartphone that
vibrates 3 times and then rings
loudly...is using a lot more
juice than one that rings twice
at a low volume.
